Live Brief with lighting design brand Anglepoise
In celebration of iconic British brand 'Anglepoise''s 90th anniversary, I was given the opportunity to design a lampshade to be exhibited at London Design Festival. Alongside the other projects I was working on at the time, I designed 3 lamps exploring natural processes and organic themes paired with collaged compositions and digital techniques. I liked the idea of using light itself to create the lampshades, so incorporated processes such as laser cutting and cyanotype photography to capture the scattered beauty of a forest floor and the nature of leaves fallen on the ground, in the way they layer without structure, yet juxtaposed by the uniformity of the collages. Designing with a focus on a specific product encouraged me to explore materiality and how this could be adapted into a commercial setting whilst having a positive impact: I imagined it as a continuous collection that utilises production waste (such as deadstock fabrics, offcuts, and organic matter used for observational drawing) to make something new.
